John Denver became a star with the folk-based songs that he wrote, many of which are set in Colorado. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, the singer-songwriter fell in the love of Colorado and later settled in Aspen. A few beat a path through Colorado following the Denver's cult anthems to his adopted state. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame declared it was because John Denver is the only performer to embody Colorado. In 2011 Denver was named the first Hall of Fame inductee. He is now the symbol of Colorado for all people. If you travel with me, you are likely to meet people from opposite sides of the planet. As an example, you might meet an individual from New Zealand. And when someone asks you if you're originally from Colorado people will respond with "Oh John Denver!" Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads was co-written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief stint in folk groups which was Denver's first Top 10 solo hit. Danoff had written the song inspired by Johnny Cash, but Denver was able to hear the song's early versions and was aware that it was going to be one of the Top 10 hits. A few days after the performance to a throng of fans in Washington D.C., the singer recorded this song.
